Tuesday, April 21, 2026 - Three persons d!ed following a stampede at a hotel in Ikere Ekiti, Ekiti State.
The incident occurred during an after-convocation party
organised by students of Bamidele Olumilua University of Education, Science and
Technology, Ikere Ekiti, on Saturday, April 18, 1026.
It was gathered that the situation turned chaotic during the
party, leading to a stampede that resulted in fatalities.
The spokesperson for the State Police Command, SP Sunday
Abutu, who confirmed the incident said the Commissioner of Police, Michael
Falade, had ordered an investigation.
“The
Ekiti State Commissioner of Police, Michael Falade, has ordered a thorough
investigation into the incident that happened at a hotel in Ikere Ekiti at
about 1 am on Sunday that led to the d3ath of a staff member of the hotel and
two students,” the statement read.
“A
preliminary investigation revealed that the students, after their convocation
on 18th April, 2028, decided to move to the hotel for a party.
"During
the party, which lasted till the following day, two yet-to-be-identified
students had an argument and began to fight.
“Others
around decided to run out of the hotel premises, and there was a stampede that
claimed the lives of three persons. The bodies of the deceased have been
deposited in the morgue for autopsy."
The said the Commissioner of Police commiserated with the
families of the victims and assured that the command would leave no stone
unturned in uncovering the circumstances surrounding the incident.
