Sunday, March 29, 2026 - Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have neutralised 38 suspected Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) fighters during an operation in Borno State.
The Joint Task Force, North East, said the operation was
carried out on Saturday morning after terrorists launched an attack on a
Forward Operating Base in Mandaragirau, Sector 2.
According to a statement by the task force’s spokesperson,
Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, the troops responded with coordinated ambushes and
a strong offensive-defensive strategy that forced the attackers into a chaotic
retreat.
The Air Component of Operation Hadin Kai also provided close
air support, delivering targeted strikes that intensified pressure on the
fleeing insurgents.
The military said follow-up operations along the terrorists’
escape routes led to further heavy losses.
“A total of about 38 terrorists were neutralised, with eight
bodies recovered within the immediate area of engagement. Human intelligence
from locals confirmed over 30 additional bodies and weapons scattered along the
Garin Mallum–Garin Gajere axis into the Timbuktu Triangle,” the statement said.
Troops also recovered seven AK-47 rifles, eight magazines,
four RPG bombs, and assorted ammunition during the operation.
No fatalities were recorded among the troops, although one
Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) vehicle was hit by RPG fire. Injured
personnel were promptly treated and stabilised.
