Police hunt down 29-year-old man for murder of his girlfriend in Oyo

Tuesday, March, 10 2026 - A 29-year-old man, Quadri Mohammed, is currently on the run following the alleged killing of his 26-year-old girlfriend, Precious Mogaji, in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State.

PUNCH Metro gathered from a statement issued on Monday by the spokesperson for the Oyo State Police Command, Olayinka Ayanlade, that the police had commenced an investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the woman’s death.

One of the photos of the deceased seen by our correspondent showed Mogaji’s lifeless body lying on the floor.

According to Ayanlade, the incident was reported by a good Samaritan who discovered the victim lying motionless at the entrance of her boyfriend’s room.

The Police Public Relations Officer also clarified that the incident occurred in the Oguntula area of Ojoo, Ibadan, and not in Akobo, Ibadan, as initially reported by some media outlets.

“The Oyo State Police Command has commenced an investigation into the alleged murder of a victim, one Precious Mogaji, female, aged 26 years,” Ayanlade said.

“Preliminary investigation reveals that at about 12:05 a.m., the incident was brought to the attention of the police by a good Samaritan who reported that the victim was found lying lifeless at the entrance of the room of her boyfriend, Quadri Mohammed, male, aged 29 years.

“Contrary to the false narrative circulating in some sections of the media alleging that the incident occurred in Akobo and involved a husband attempting to place the corpse of his wife in the trunk of a car, preliminary findings indicate that the incident actually occurred in the Oguntula area of Ojoo, Ibadan, and not Akobo as widely reported.”

He added that acting on the information, the patrol team and the incident duty officer of the Ojoo Division were immediately dispatched to the scene.

“Upon arrival, the lifeless body of the victim was discovered on the floor at the doorway of the suspect’s room. The body was forensically examined, and findings were duly documented in line with established investigative procedures.

“Following the preliminary examination, the scene was properly documented, and photographs were taken.

“Thereafter, the corpse was evacuated to a hospital where it was deposited at the morgue for an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.

“In the course of the investigation, it was discovered that the said boyfriend, Quadri Mohammed, is currently at large. Investigation is ongoing, while concerted efforts are being intensified to apprehend the suspect,” he said.

The command urged anyone with useful information that could assist the investigation to report to the nearest police station or contact the state command.

It also assured the public that further updates would be provided and urged residents to disregard misleading reports circulating on social media.

A similar incident occurred in the state last September, after a 45-year-old mother of two, Bunmi Ojo, was reported dead in the Akilapa area of Olodo, Ibadan.

The incident, which was reported by an Ibadan radio station, Crest FM, occurred after Bunmi, who had a male visitor, suddenly began coughing.

She was quickly rushed to the hospital by her next-door neighbour, where she was confirmed dead.

One of the neighbours revealed that the male visitor, whom Bunmi allegedly met online, attempted to flee upon their return from the hospital but was restrained.
