One person killed in Lagos-Ibadan Expressway crash




Wednesday, March, 4 2026 - One person died while two others sustained varying degrees of injuries in a road crash that occurred on Tuesday at the Lenuwa turning along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway at about 11 a.m.

An eyewitness, who requested anonymity, told our correspondent that the vehicle involved, a truck conveying grains and rams, lost control and fell onto its side near the median.

“The accident occurred at the Lenuwa U-turn on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway this morning. A truck carrying goats and grains fell onto its side. One person was feared dead, while two others sustained injuries from the impact,” the eyewitness said

Confirming the incident in a telephone interview on Tuesday, the spokesperson for the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency, Babatunde Akinbiyi, said the crash was caused by excessive speed.

Akinbiyi disclosed that three adult males were involved in the accident, adding that one died while the other two sustained injuries.

“The accident involved a DAF truck with registration number FUN 552 XA.

 “It was caused by excessive speed,” he said.

“It was a fatal crash involving three adult males. One adult male died, while two others were injured. The injured victims were taken to the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital, Sagamu, while the body of the deceased was deposited at the Idera Hospital morgue in Sagamu,” he added.

He noted that traffic flow was partially disrupted following the accident but said joint efforts by TRACE officials and the police ensured the prompt restoration of normalcy in the area.
