NSCDC arrests 2 suspects over illegal possession of firearms




Tuesday, March 31, 2026 - The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Nasarawa State Command, has arrested two suspects for illegal possession of firearms.

The move is part of the NSCDC ongoing efforts to combat crime and ensure public safety across the state.

Arewa PUNCH reports that the State Commandant, Brah Samson Umoru, while speaking to journalists through the Public Relations Officer of the command, SC Jerry Victor on Wednesday in Lafia, the state capital, disclosed that the suspects, Sumaka Nomsoor, a 55-year-old male from Angwatashi, and Adam Paul, a 34-year-old male from Angwan Ganga Duduguru, both from Obi Local Government Area of the state, were apprehended at different locations on March 23rd, 2026.

The Commandant said, “The arrests were made following intelligence-driven operations by operatives of the Corps.

“I, therefore, want to use this opportunity to reaffirm the command’s commitment to curbing the proliferation of illegal firearms and other criminal activities within the state.”

He further emphasised that the command, under his leadership, will not relent in its efforts to rid the state of criminal elements and ensure the protection of lives and property.

Commandant Umoru further urged members of the public to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies by providing timely and useful information.

He stressed that reporting suspicious movements and activities is crucial to maintaining peace and security, adding that, “if you see something, it is not enough to say something, but do something.”

According to the NSCDC boss, “The suspects are currently in custody, and investigations are ongoing.

They will be charged to a competent court of jurisdiction for prosecution upon conclusion of the investigation.

“The command reiterates its commitment to protecting lives and property. We are also calling for continued cooperation from the public in the fight against crime and criminality in the state,” he added.
