Friday, March 27, 2026 - Femi Fani-Kayode, Nigeria’s Ambassador to Germany, has dismissed the African Democratic Congress, ADC, as a credible opposition force, describing the party as a group driven by desperation for political power.
Speaking on the state of opposition politics in Nigeria,
Fani-Kayode argued that the ADC is made up of individuals he considers
discredited and incapable of advancing the nation’s progress.
He further asserted that the opposition landscape in the
country has effectively collapsed.
Posting on his Facebook page, the former Aviation minister
said opposition parties have failed in their primary role of holding the
government accountable, citing internal conflicts and disunity as major
setbacks.
He criticized opposition figures for engaging in infighting
rather than presenting a coordinated challenge, adding that their lack of
cohesion has rendered them ineffective.
“I don’t see ADC as an opposition party: I see them as an
association of people that are desperate for power.
“Individuals that are discredited, individuals that have no
hope in hell of moving this nation forward. The opposition has collapsed in
Nigeria.
“There is no opposition because they don’t even know how to
be in opposition. How can they keep the government on its toes when they are
busy bickering amongst themselves, fighting amongst themselves and they are
fast asleep in bed snoring,” he wrote.
