Governor FINTIRI re-introduces curfew in Lamurde local government over insecurity

Monday, March, 9 2026 - Governor of Adamawa state, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri has imposed a 24-hour curfew on Lamurde Local Government Area following renewed violent attacks in several communities.

The announcement was made in a statement released in Yola by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Humwashi Wonosikou.

According to the statement, the curfew takes immediate effect after fresh violence and a breakdown of peace in the affected communities reportedly claimed the lives of several residents. Wonosikou said the governor described the disturbances as unacceptable and directed security agencies to strictly enforce the restriction.

Anyone found violating the directive, he said, would be arrested and dealt with in accordance with the law. The government also confirmed that the curfew will remain in force until further notice.

Lamurde had previously experienced similar unrest, and a 24-hour curfew was earlier imposed on December 8, 2025, after what authorities described as a fresh eruption of communal hostilities targeting the Bachama community.

Fintiri urged residents to comply fully with the curfew and cooperate with security agencies by providing information that could help restore peace. “Government will not condone acts of violence and will take necessary measures to restore peace and order,” the governor said.

He also reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to protecting lives and property while calling on communities to work together with authorities to restore normalcy in the area.
