Thursday, March, 12 2026 - The Board of Trustees, BoT, of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has appointed former Niger State Governor, Dr Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu, as the Secretary of the board.
The appointment was unanimously approved during the BoT’s
expanded emergency meeting held in Asokoro, Abuja, following deliberations on
key issues affecting the party’s leadership and internal structure.
The meeting, which took place on Tuesday and Wednesday,
brought together top party leaders to review recent developments within the
PDP, particularly in the aftermath of the Court of Appeal judgment delivered on
March 9, 2026.
In a communiqué presented on Wednesday by the Chairman of
the BoT, Senator Adolphus Wabara, the board said it carefully examined issues
relating to the party’s leadership in light of the appellate court ruling.
According to the communiqué, the board unanimously approved
the appointment of Dr Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu as Secretary of the PDP Board of
Trustees in line with Section 32 of the PDP Constitution (as amended in 2017).
It reads “The BoT, pursuant to Section 32 of the
Constitution of the PDP (as amended in 2017), unanimously approved the
appointment of Dr. Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu as the Secretary of the Board.”
The board further noted that the expanded meeting was
convened to thoroughly review the party’s leadership situation and chart a
clear path forward for the PDP following the appellate court decision.
Party leaders at the meeting reaffirmed their commitment to
strengthening the party’s internal structures and ensuring stability within the
PDP ahead of future political engagements.
