Thursday, March, 5 2026 - Former US mayor Misty Roberts has expressed disappointment after being convicted on charges related to having carnal knowledge of a juvenile, with her legal team saying she still maintains she did nothing wrong.
Roberts, the former mayor of DeRidder Louisiana, a US town,
was found guilty on two felony counts, carnal knowledge of a juvenile and
indecent behavior with a juvenile, following a trial this week.
Her lawyer, Todd Clemons, told TMZ that Roberts was deeply
upset by the verdict and intends to challenge the decision in court. “Misty is
very, very disappointed,” Clemons said. “At this particular point, there’s no
apology that I’m gonna give on her behalf,” he added, noting that while Roberts
respects the jury’s decision, she plans to appeal the verdict.
Roberts is scheduled to be sentenced in April and faces a
possible prison term of up to 17 years if the court imposes the maximum
penalty.
Clemons said his client continues to insist she is innocent
and that her legal team will attempt to persuade the judge not to impose a
prison sentence. He said Roberts had served the community well while in office
and should not be incarcerated.
“Misty was an excellent mayor and is an excellent mother,”
Clemons said, adding that they would present arguments at sentencing to support
their request for leniency.
During the trial, the alleged victim testified that his son,
who was friends with Roberts’ child, claimed to have seen Roberts and the
juvenile engaging in intoxicated s3x at their home during a pool party.
Roberts, 43, now awaits sentencing scheduled for April 17,
where the court will determine whether she will receive a custodial sentence.
