Tuesday, March, 24 2026 - Tajudeen Baruwa on Monday, March 23, assumed control of the national secretariat of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, effectively displacing Musiliu Akinsanya as president of the union.
The development follows a prolonged leadership crisis within
the union, which escalated as Baruwa and his supporters took over the
secretariat in Abuja.
Baruwa stated that the move was in compliance with court
rulings affirming him as the legitimate leader of the union. He maintained that
the action was not a forceful takeover but the execution of legal judgments
after a lengthy dispute.
According to him, security agencies had been duly notified
with copies of the court rulings before the takeover.
The leadership tussle between Baruwa and MC Oluomo has been
ongoing, with multiple legal battles shaping the control of the union. Recent
court decisions, including rulings by the National Industrial Court and the
Court of Appeal, strengthened Baruwa’s position as the recognised president.
