Thursday, March, 12 2026 - Residents of communities in Akure North Local Government Area of Ondo State came out in their numbers to protest the increasing spate of abductions and k!llings.
During the protest on Tuesday, March 10, the residents used
the body of a kidnap victim who was k!lled by his abductors to barricade the
busy Akure–Owo highway.
The situation brought vehicular movement to a halt.
The protesters said they would only allow vehicular movement
along the road after the government addresses the insecurity they are
facing.
The protesters carried placards with words such as “We Are
Dying, Save Our Souls”, “Mr Governor, Please Assist Us”, and “Our Children Are
in Danger and We Cannot Go to Farms Again.”
The lamented that they could neither go to their farms nor
sleep because of the incessant kidnappings in the communities.
They demanded that Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa visit the scene
of the protest before they would end the blockage.
The Commissioner of Police, Adebowale Lawal, intervened and
persuaded the protesters to allow the free flow of traffic on the highway. The
police boss assured them that he would deploy additional policemen and tactical
units to tackle the insecurity.
On Monday, March 9, the Secretary of Okeluju Local Council
Development Area under Akoko North West Local Government Area of the state was
kidnapped on his farm alongside two others.
