Monday, February 23 2026 - The Kano State Police Command has arrested six suspected members of a car theft syndicate and recovered three stolen vehicles in the state.
In a statement issued on February 22, 2026, the command said
the arrests followed sustained efforts to combat vehicle theft through
intelligence- and technology-driven operations, as directed by Inspector
General of Police Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun.
According to the police, the Special Intervention Squad
(SIS), acting under the supervision of the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim
Adamu Bakori, arrested a 35-year-old suspect, Aliyu Mamman, at Hotoro Ring Road
in Kano on February 13, 2026.
“The suspect, who lives in Gusau LGA of Zamfara State,
confessed to stealing several vehicles in Kano, Kaduna and Katsina states,” the
statement said.
The police added that he identified other members of the
syndicate, including Abdulhamid Usman, Saliha Abdulhamid, Auwal Shuaibu, Sani
Bala and Ahmad Mannir, all of whom have now been arrested.
“The suspects confessed to the crime, which led to the
recovery of a Golf Wagon, Golf Opel and a Hijet (Kurkura) vehicle,” the police
said.
The Commissioner of Police commended the Special
Intervention Squad for their dedication and professionalism in effecting the
arrests and recovering the vehicles.
The command urged residents to remain vigilant and report
any suspicious activity to the nearest police station or via its emergency

The police also reassured the public of their commitment to
maintaining law and order and ensuring a safe environment for everyone in Kano
State.
