Monday, February 23 2026 - The Oyo State Government has dismissed reports of a kidnapping at the College of Nursing campus in Kishi, describing the claims as false and misleading.
The Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology,
Olusegun Olayiwola, said the panic was triggered by an unfounded alarm that
spread quickly among students, staff and residents.
He reassured parents and members of the public that no
kidnapping took place and reiterated the government’s commitment to maintaining
security across educational institutions in the state.
Olayiwola also cautioned against the spread of unverified
information online, warning that disseminating false claims could amount to a
cybercrime. He urged those responsible for the rumour to desist immediately.
In a related statement, the Provost of the Oyo State College
of Nursing and Midwifery, Dr. Gbonjubola Owolabi, confirmed that internal
checks with security personnel found no evidence of any security breach on
campus.
The college management said it has initiated steps to trace
the origin of the rumour while also strengthening security measures to prevent
similar incidents in the future.
Parents and guardians were advised to rely on official
communication channels and avoid reacting to unverified social media reports.
