Thursday, February 26 2026 - Suspected Boko Haram terrorists have ambushed members of a vigilante group on routine patrol along the Warave–Gwoza Road in Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State, killing one operative.
Security sources told Zagazola Makama that the attack
occurred at about 7:30 a.m. on Tuesday when the insurgents opened fire on
members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) and local hunters conducting
patrol in the area.
During the ambush, a CJTF member identified as Bello Adamu,
50, sustained fatal gunshot injuries. He was evacuated to the General Hospital
in Gwoza, where medical personnel confirmed him dead on arrival.
His remains were subsequently released to his family for
burial in accordance with Islamic rites.
Following the incident, troops of Operation HADIN KAI were
deployed to the area to secure the axis. Security patrols and surveillance have
since been intensified along the Warave–Gwoza corridor to forestall further
attacks and track the perpetrators.
Military authorities are yet to issue an official statement
on the incident as of the time of filing this report.
