Saturday, February 7, 2026 - A
Delta State High Court sitting in Abraka, Ethiope-East Local Government Area
has sentenced one Ernest Okporu to 12 years imprisonment for r@ping his
landlord's 11-year old daughter.
The incident occurred in March 2024 at Osubi community, in
Okpe Local Government Area.
Okporu, 41, had asked the victim to go bring his charger
from his apartment. He followed her, grabbed her from the back, tied her hands
to the back and violently def!led her.
Justice S.I Okeleke handed down the sentence in a judgement
on Thursday, February 5, 2026.
A human rights activist and Senior Special Assistant to the
Governor on Human Rights, Kelvin Ejumudo, who handled the case confirmed the
sentencing in a Facebook post on Friday.
Ejumudo, who doubles as National Secretary of Human Rights
Protection Congress, HRPC, said the minor is still traumatized whenever she
recalls the ugly incident.
He commended the judge for upholding the Rule of Law as well
as the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Justice, Omamuzo Erebe, SAN for a
quality representation while the matter lasted in court.
“Justice at
last for 11 years old girl who was r@ped by Mr Ernest okporu in March 2024 in
Osubi community of Delta state. It was a breath of fresh air yesterday at the
Abraka High court of Justice, Delta State under His Lordship Justice S.I
Okeleke,” he wrote.
"The
judgement was in our favor as Mr Ernest Okporu was sentenced to 12 years
imprisonment for Raping a minor of 11 years old.
"I
personally want to commend the judge for upholding the Rule of Law and to the
state counsel who did a good job, special appreciation to the permanent
secretary ministry of Justice and Attorney General Omamuzo Erebe SAN for breeding quality
representation in the Delta State ministry of justice.
"Rape
is traumatic as the little girl is still traumatized till date whenever she
recalls the ugly incident how she was tied and raped by Mr Ernest. In the
coming days his picture will be posted in the Delta website of Rape offenders
to serve as deterrence. He was convicted under the Violence Against persons
prohibition Act Delta state (VAPP LAW).
“I also wish to appreciate His Excellency my principal the Executive Governor of Delta Statem Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori, state, who have zero tolerance for Rape and defilement cases and other related matters.”
