Thursday, February 12, 2026 - Bijou Phillips is back in hospital and urgently in need of a second kidney transplant after her previous donor organ failed.
A representative for Phillips confirmed she is currently
receiving care at UCLA Health, where she has returned to dialysis while waiting
for a living donor match.
The actress received a kidney transplant in 2017, with the
organ donated by a friend. However, that transplant has now failed. According
to her representative, she experienced several complications following the
surgery, including the BK virus, which contributed to both cellular and
antibody rejection of the kidney, Phillips is said to be in stable condition,
but her team emphasized that “time is of the essence” as she awaits another
transplant.
Born with underdeveloped kidneys, Phillips spent the first
three months of her life in a neonatal intensive care unit on dialysis. She has
battled kidney disease for most of her life.
She is currently under the care of Dr. Anjay Rastogi at the
CORE Kidney programme at UCLA Health as she undergoes treatment and explores
the donor process.
