Saturday, January 24, 2026 - Youths in Swali community in Yenagoa Local Government Area of Bayelsa State have staged a protest over the k!lling of a student of Ekowe Polytechnic, Clever Charles Abadi.
Abadi, a native of Ekowe community, was allegedly beaten to
d3ath at Swali market.
The protesters reportedly blocked roads and markets in
Swali, carrying placards and chanting solidarity songs while demanding justice
for the deceased.
They called on the authorities to investigate the k!lling
and ensure those responsible are brought to book.
The spokesperson for the Bayelsa State Police Command, DSP
Musa Mohammed, who confirmed the incident on Thursday, January 22, 2026, said
four suspects have been arrested in connection with Abadi's d3ath.
He identified the suspects as Musa Abdullahi, James Peter,
Godbless Joel and Peremobowei Perepuighegha.
The PPRO also cautioned members of the public against
spreading unverified rumours, particularly narratives suggesting that the
k!lling was perpetrated by northerners, urging residents to always seek and
verify information from the police before making public statements.
He assured that normalcy has been restored to the area,
adding that the Command is following all lawful procedures to ensure that
justice is served in the matter.
The Police spokesperson reiterated the commitment of the
Bayelsa State Police Command to the protection of lives and property, while
calling on residents to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies as
investigations continue.
