Saturday, January 10, 2026 - Former Abia State Governor and serving senator for Abia North, Orji Uzor Kalu, has dismissed Governor Alex Otti’s chances of securing a second term in office, declaring that the incumbent is “a one-term governor” who should “return to banking.”
Addressing supporters at a recent gathering, Kalu said the 2027 contest
was already a settled matter in his view, insisting that he and his political
network are prepared to reclaim control of the state. He told the crowd that
Otti should “write his will,” adding that his political structure would work to
ensure the governor’s defeat.
Kalu also defended the political ambitions of his siblings, noting that
his younger brother Mascot Kalu who contested the 2023 governorship
election but lost to Otti, had a constitutional right to seek office
again. He said his family members were entitled to participate in politics just
like any other citizens.
Looking ahead to 2027, Kalu vowed to campaign “from door to door” across
Abia, arguing that Otti “can never win a free and fair election.” He described
himself as “a good senator on the right track” and maintained confidence in his
ability to influence the state’s political terrain.
The remarks come amid ongoing political tensions in Abia, where Kalu and
Otti have publicly clashed.
