Tuesday, January 20, 2026 - Speaker of the Borno State House of Assembly, Abdulkarim Lawan, has protested the exclusion of Vice-President Kashim Shettima’s picture from a banner displaying party leaders at an APC event in Maiduguri.
The banner featured images of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu,
five APC governors from the North-East and the National Legal Adviser, but
omitted the vice-president, who hails from Borno State.
Lawan described the omission as unfair and questioned why
organisers would remove Shettima’s image, especially at an event taking place
in his hometown.
“This is what created the fracas in Gombe, and it’s
repeating itself here in Borno. I don’t know the motive of the organisers but
it’s not right,” he said. “How can the organisers exclude the picture of a
sitting vice president, who is from Borno and the North East zone,” he added.
His remarks drew loud applause from the crowd at the venue.
Governors and other APC stakeholders are in Maiduguri for the North-East zonal
public hearing on proposed amendments to the party’s Constitution.
