Tuesday, January 27, 2026 - Troops of Sector 2, Joint Task Force Operation Whirl Stroke have uncovered an illegal arms factory in Doma Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, authorities said on Monday.
The acting Media Information Officer of the operation, Lt.
Ahmad Zubairu, disclosed that the discovery was made during routine patrols
conducted by troops stationed at Forward Operating Base, Idadu, as part of
efforts to combat criminal activities in the area.
“Upon approaching the location, the troops encountered
several individuals who fled. However, one suspect, Baba Ogar, 26, from Arusu
village in Kokona LGA, was apprehended while attempting to hide on top of a
tree,” Lt Zubairu said in a statement made available to journalists in Makurdi.
A thorough search of the site led to the recovery of six
locally fabricated pistols, assorted tools and instruments believed to be used
in producing illegal firearms, N40,500, and a mobile phone in the possession of
the suspect.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the location served
as a manufacturing site supplying firearms to criminal elements within and
beyond the local area. The suspect is currently in custody, and investigations
have been intensified to track down other accomplices who fled.
The Force Commander of OPWS, Maj. Gen. Moses Gara, commended
the troops for their professionalism, vigilance, and sustained operational
pressure, which culminated in the discovery of the illegal arms facility.
He urged the troops to maintain momentum and continue
relying on intelligence-driven operations to dismantle criminal networks within
the Joint Operations Area.
Gara also emphasized the importance of public cooperation,
encouraging residents to provide timely and credible intelligence, noting that
actionable information remains vital for lasting security and economic growth
