Friday, January 23, 2026 - The Kogi State Vigilante Service has rescued three abducted students of the Abubakar Audi University (AAU) in a forest in Ankpa Local Government Area of the state.
The spokesperson of the , Idris Suleiman Idris, who disclosed
this in a statement said the victims and three other colleagues were abducted
on January 16, 2026 while returning to school after Christmas and New Year
break.
According to the statement, the rescue was carried out in
collaboration with local hunters and other security operatives.
Idris added that security personnel are still combing the
bush to rescue the remaining three abductees and also apprehend the kidnappers.
“On 17th January, 2026 between 0700-0845 hours
inside a forest around Okura/Ankpa axis of Ankpa LGA, a combined team of
operatives, drawn from the Police, KSVS and Hunters, on a joint bush combing,
rescued three (3) victims namely Umar Babangi 19yrs (M), Ahmed Abubakar 20yrs
(m) and Zakaria Yakubu 20yrs (m) from suspected Fulani kidnappers,” the
statement read.
"The rescued victims, who are students of AAU, were
kidnapped alongside three (3) of their colleagues, a day earlier (16th
January,2026) along Okura/Ankpa stretch while returning to school after
Christmas and new year break.
"While the rescued students had been taken to a facility
for medical checks before reuniting them with their families, the
aforementioned joint team of security personnel are still combing the bush to
rescue the remaining three (3) abductees, and also apprehend the kidnappers

Security Agencies during the rescue mission.
