Saturday, January 31, 2026 -The lawmaker representing Plateau North in the National Assembly, Senator Pam Dachungyang, has also defected from the Action Democratic Party, ADP, to the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC.
While presenting his letter of defection to the Senate
during plenary on Thursday, Dachungyang who was the
only ADP senator in the Red Chamber, cited irreconcilable differences within
the ADP for his decision to defect to the APC.
Before now, there were speculations that Dachungyang would
defect to the APC and the senator’s decision has finally put an end to the
speculations.
In the letter titled, ‘Notice of Defection from the Action
Democratic Party, which was read on the floor of the upper chamber by Senate
President Godswill Akpabio, Dachungyang said his decision followed extensive
consultations with stakeholders in his senatorial district, including his
constituents and political associates.
He stated that his defection was also informed by the need
to align with a political platform that best reflects his commitment to good
governance, inclusive development and the overall interests of the people of
his senatorial district.
“My defection is also necessitated by irreconcilable
differences and persistent internal wrangling within the Action Democratic
Party,” the letter said.
Continuing, the senator said unresolved issues in the ADP
had hindered his performance and ability to effectively contribute to the
party’s ideals and deliver quality representation to his constituents.
“I am confident that the All Progressives Congress provides
a more stable, more progressive platform through which I can continue to serve
my constituency and the nation with renewed focus and dedication.
“Kindly accept this letter as my formal notification, in
line with the provisions of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of
Nigeria, and please accept me into the fold of the APC and also accept the
assurances of my highest regard,” he added.
