Thursday, January 22, 2026 -The suspects linked to the killing of a security guard in the Bursari Local Government Area of Yobe State, Musa Mohammed, are still at large.
Mohammed’s body was discovered in a community river.
The state police command spokesperson, Dungus Abdulkarim,
confirmed the incident to PUNCH Metro during an exclusive
interview on Wednesday.
A post on X by counter-insurgency expert Zagazola Makama
stated that the attack occurred on Monday.
According to Makama, unidentified assailants confronted
Mohammed while he was on duty, tied his hands and legs, and threw him into the
river.
Makama wrote that residents of Girim Village, Ya’u Gambo,
and Adamu Muhammad revealed the incident happened at about 8:00 a.m. on January
19.
“They said the attackers forcefully restrained Musa
Mohammed, tied his hands and legs, and threw him into the river,” the post
stated.
Sources, according to the report, added that about a month
earlier, Mohammed had a disagreement with five men from Dadigar Village in
Bursari LGA, who allegedly warned him to stop guarding the river or face
consequences.
Mohammed was reportedly rushed to a specialist hospital in
Gashua, where a medical doctor later confirmed his death.
“Yes, it is confirmed. The area falls under the jurisdiction
of the Garin Alkali Division of Bursari Local Government Area,” Abdulkarim had
told PUNCH Metro on Tuesday.
While reacting to whether the command had made any arrest on
Wednesday, Abdulkarim said, “Suspects were identified but are on the run as a
hot chase is on.”
