Monday, January 5, 2026 -The Oyo State Police Command has arrested a man, Olaitan Oloyede, over allegations of defiling his neighbour’s minor in the Oke-Alaro area of Ibadan.
According to a statement issued on Saturday night by the
command’s spokesperson, Ayanlade Olayinka, that the incident occurred in
October.
The statement read in part, “Investigation revealed that an
eight-year-old girl informed her father that she was experiencing pain in her
private part and that she had been sexually violated by their 27-year-old
neighbour, Olaitan Oloyede, sometime in October 2025.”
Following the report, the command disclosed that the
Oke-Alaro Police Division promptly commenced investigations, which led to the
arrest of the suspect.
According to the statement, “Detectives from Oke-Alaro
Division, led by the Divisional Police Officer, took the victim to a hospital
for medical examination, treatment and rehabilitation, where she is currently
receiving the necessary care and support.
“Meanwhile, the suspect was arrested, placed in lawful
custody and is cooperating with the investigation, allowing the police to
proceed with further enquiries.”
The statement added that the state Commissioner of Police,
Femi Haruna, expressed strong displeasure over the incident and commended the
leadership of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, for his
guidance in strengthening intelligence-led policing and the protection of
vulnerable persons.
“CP Haruna has directed that the case be transferred to the
State CID Gender Desk for discreet investigation to ensure a thorough and
professional handling of the matter,” the statement said.
The command reiterated its zero tolerance for sexual and
gender-based violence, particularly against children, and urged parents,
guardians and members of the public to promptly report any suspected abuse to
the nearest police station.
It also reaffirmed its commitment to ridding Oyo State of
violent crimes and ensuring justice for all victims.
The arrest comes less than seven days after the command
disclosed the arrest of another man in connection with a similar offence
involving a 17-year-old girl.
