Friday, January 2, 2026 - The Jigawa State Police Command has arrested 17 suspected criminals during a series of raids carried out across different parts of the state, recovering weapons, illicit drugs and items believed to be stolen.
The development was disclosed in a statement issued by the
Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Shi’isu Adam.
He revealed two suspects, identified as Haruna Saleh and
Usman Damina Bahaushe, were arrested in Dutse Local Government Area during a
raid that led to the recovery of ₦143,250. DSP Shi’isu said the suspects were identified by a complainant,
while mobile phones and weapons were also found in their possession.
In Malam Madori Local Government Area, the police arrested
Usaini Abdullahi in connection with an armed robbery case. The police
spokesperson said four other suspects involved in the incident escaped and are
currently being tracked.
The command also reported the arrest of two suspected
vandals, Ayuba Idris and Ibrahim Muhammad, for allegedly removing copper cables
from a transformer in Malam Madori. Mobile phones and other items were
recovered during the arrest.
Elsewhere, three suspects were apprehended in Kirikasamma
Local Government Area over alleged involvement in culpable homicide and armed
robbery. A motorcycle and mobile phones were recovered from them.
DSP Shi’isu added that two more suspects, Murtala Bature and
Musa Yakubu, were arrested in operations conducted across Kaugama, Gumel, Sara
and Hadejia local government areas.
During these operations, the police recovered a locally
fabricated rifle, five wraps of cannabis and other hard drugs, the statement
said.
The police also disclosed that suspected animal rustlers
abandoned two Kasea motorcycles while fleeing from operatives in Birniwa Local
Government Area. Efforts are ongoing to arrest the fleeing suspects.
DSP Shi’isu urged residents to assist security agencies
by providing useful information, noting that community cooperation remains key
to reducing crime in the state.
