One killed in violent clash between two rival gang groups in Kano

Wednesday, January 7, 2026 - One person has been killed and nine suspects arrested following a violent clash between rival gang groups in parts of Kano city.

Sources told Zagazola Makama that the incident occurred at about 9 pm on January 4 in Kawo and Mariri areas of the metropolis.

The clash involved two rival groups led by Kabalo Snu and Faizu Mohammed, also known as Chabross, from Yar Kasuwa in Kawo.

Reports said the violence was a revenge attack linked to an earlier fight between the two groups.

Earlier the same day, at about 1:40 pm, Faizu Mohammed was said to have injured Kabalo during a separate confrontation.

This reportedly angered Kabalo’s supporters, who later launched a retaliatory attack at night.

During the reprisal clash, reports said Faizu Mohammed was stabbed in the neck with a sharp object and sustained serious injuries.

He was rushed to Muhammadu Sanusi Specialist Hospital, where he later died while receiving treatment.

Reports added that his body was released to his family for burial, and calm was initially restored in the area.

However, tension rose again in the early hours of January 5 after reports emerged that suspected gang members were gathering in large numbers at Kawo Quarters.

They were allegedly planning another attack on Kabalo at his residence in the Jar Kuka area of Mariri.

Police officers were swiftly deployed to the area. On arrival, they discovered that the suspects had already broken into a shop belonging to Kabalo.

The police moved in and arrested nine suspects, while several others escaped. Some items were also recovered during the operation, according to reports.

The situation has since been brought under control, with normal activities returning to the affected neighbourhoods. Investigations are ongoing, and efforts are being made to arrest the fleeing suspects and prevent further violence.
