Wednesday, January 28, 2026 - The Kano State Police Command says its operatives have arrested a 25-year-old man, Ididiong James, for allegedly attacking his mother and possessing an English Beretta pistol with eight rounds of ammunition.
A statement issued on Wednesday by the Police Public
Relations Officer of the command, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, explained that
police officers attached to the Panshekara Division, Kano, on January 25
responded to a distress call about the suspect’s activities.
The PPRO said the officers found that the suspect was
“mercilessly beating his mother at their residence in Panshekara Quarters,
Kano.”
“The suspect fled the scene upon the officers’ arrival, but
his mother handed over the pistol and ammunition, stating that she had
discovered them in her son’s bag and refused to give them to him, leading to
the violent attack.
“She also expressed concern over her son’s changed behaviour
since his return from a New Year celebration.
“The suspect was subsequently arrested and is currently in police
custody. The Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, PhD, commends the
mother for her courage and urges parents to be vigilant,” the statement added.
