Wednesday, January 14, 2026 - The Leader of the Kwankwasiyya Movement and the 2023 presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Dr Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has accused the Kano State Government of allegedly pressuring state officials to sign for APC decamping.
Kwankwaso, speaking on his verified social media handles,
alleged, “I have received several news, some good ones, but some so terrible. I
received reports that Kano State Government is compelling state officials and
elected local government chairmen to sign for either Gandujiyya or
Kwankwasiyya”.
He added, “every of our supporters would not take this
lightly. It is so disheartening that government would go down so low to be
doing this”.
However, in a quick reaction to the allegations, the Kano
State Commissioner for Information, Ibrahim Waiya, said there was no truth in
the claim.
He stated, “what exactly happened is that our party is
asking everybody, not only government officials, who is willingly and ready to
join APC to do so, but not compelling as reported”.
The commissioner insisted that nobody was compelled or
forced to act against their political wishes, emphasizing that Governor Abba
Kabir Yusuf believes in freedom of association and membership.
Kwankwaso, in the clip, however, asked his supporters and
followers to freely join the APC if they so wished.
“You should sign any documents given to you for the decamping to the APC; I
have no problems with that”, he said.
