Wednesday, January 7, 2026 - The Katsina State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, arrested 1,018 suspects and seized over 2.4 tonnes of illicit drugs across the state in 2025.
The State Commander, Mr Samaila Danmalam, disclosed this on
Tuesday during the command’s end-of-year press briefing in Katsina.
Danmalam said the arrests and seizures were carried out
through intelligence-led raids and patrols across various parts of the state,
aimed at disrupting drug trafficking networks and curbing substance abuse.
He explained that those arrested included 992 males and 26
females.
According to him, the command seized a total of 2,473.755
kilogrammes of illicit substances, comprising 1,667.747kg of cannabis sativa,
793.66kg of psychotropic substances, and 12.348kg of codeine syrup.
On prosecution, the NDLEA commander said 86 suspects were
arraigned in court during the year, while 87 convictions were secured.
Danmalam attributed the results to improved coordination
between investigators and prosecutors.
He also said the command intensified its War Against Drug
Abuse, WADA, campaign, reaching 75,135 people through 203 sensitisation
programmes in 2025.
According to him, 451 drug users were counselled, while 58
clients were admitted for rehabilitation.
Despite the gains, Danmalam said the command faced
operational challenges, including inadequate vehicles, poor office
infrastructure, and insufficient accommodation for officers.
He
appealed for support to address the challenges and assured residents that the
NDLEA would sustain efforts to combat drug abuse and trafficking in Katsina
State.
