Saturday, January 3, 2026 - Former AOA member Kwon Mina sparked urgent concern on New Year’s Day after sharing a series of alarming social media posts detailing a suicide attempt and her subsequent rescue. The 32-year-old singer and actress, who has a history of public mental health struggles, posted a message titled "Goodbye and I’m sorry" before revealing two hours later that she had been found and revived just in time.
In the now-deleted posts, Mina described losing
consciousness before being shaken awake by an unidentified person. She
expressed a sense of despair over her situation, comparing herself to the
"boy who cried wolf" due to previous attempts on her life in 2020 and
2021. Despite the rescue, she issued a chilling warning to followers, stating
she still intended to keep her "promise" to disappear.
According to Daily Mail, the incident follows years of
personal and legal turmoil for the star. Mina first gained fame in 2012 with
the K-pop group AOA, known for hits like "Miniskirt" and "Heart
Attack," but left the group in 2019. A year later, she went public with
allegations of long-term bullying by former group leader Shin Jimin. More
recently, Mina revealed the emotional toll of a four-year legal battle
regarding a 2007 sexual assault. While the court acknowledged the assault occurred,
the perpetrator was found not guilty due to the statute of limitations, a
result Mina said left her feeling "destroyed" and
"wronged."
Mina’s agency has since confirmed that she was rescued
swiftly and that there is currently no threat to her life. Despite the recent
crisis, her management stated that her first solo fan meeting, scheduled for
January 23 at H-Stage in Seoul, is still planned to proceed as scheduled. The
agency also warned of legal action against malicious commenters, as fans
continue to express deep concern for the star's well-being following the tragic
losses of other young stars like Moonbin and Kim Sae-ron.
