Monday, January 5, 2026 - Former Kaduna Central Senator, Shehu Sani, has warned that
if nothing is done urgently, Nigerians may be banned from the rest of the world
in the near future.
Sani issued this warning in a post via his official X handle
on Saturday, in response to the deportation of Nigerians by the Canadian
government.
Canada deported no fewer than 366 Nigerians between
January and October 2025, as the country stepped up immigration enforcement at
its fastest pace in more than a decade.
Reacting, the former lawmaker said: “Canada has been a
second home to thousands of Nigerians who live, study, or work there. It’s the
most liberal country when it comes to immigration and accommodating Nigerians.
“The recent deportations of Nigerians from Canada are a
wake-up call. Our unscrupulous citizens, involved in crime and abusing the
benevolence and generosity of the Canadian people, are not helpful to our
country’s image.
“We either tackle the few among us, or we may wake up one
day banned by the rest of the world.”
