Friday, January 30, 2026 - The First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has said her aspiration is to serve as a positive case study and role model for young girls, noting a growing lack of relatable role models in today’s society.
She made the remarks on Thursday, January 29, at the
inauguration of the “Sen. Oluremi Tinubu Dream Centre” at Obafemi Awolowo
University (OAU), Ile-Ife, Osun State.
Speaking at the event, the First Lady said she had long
believed in the importance of being an example for younger generations. “All
along, I have been thinking that I should be a case study for young girls,” she
said.
“They talk about the girl child all the time, but nowadays
people no longer have role models. We live in an age where, even when people
are doing well, out of envy, many untrue things are said about them on the
internet, and our young people do not really see many people to emulate.”
She explained that role models played a significant role in
shaping her own life and encouraged young girls to cultivate positive dreams.
Recalling her childhood ambition, Tinubu said she had always wanted to become a
teacher and eventually fulfilled that dream.
“As young as I was then, just like the two girls who
welcomed me here, I knew I wanted to be a teacher, and I ended up being one,”
she said.
