Saturday, January 10, 2026 - Gunmen have abducted a woman identified as
Folakemi in Ibadan, Oyo State.
The victim, said to be a teacher in an
international school in Ibadan, was abducted at Oshin area, along Adebajo
Street, New Bodija on Tuesday.
According to Nigerian Tribune Online,
Folakemi, who resides in the Akobo area of Ibadan, was in her vehicle, a Toyota
RAV4, on her way to the school where she works when she was blocked by a Toyota
Highlander SUV with three armed men, one of them masked.
Another story had it that she was on her way
to a church programme.
The masked gunman emerged from the Highlander
and went to drag Folakemi out of her car into the gang’s waiting vehicle before
speeding off through adjoining streets, leaving behind the other female who was
in the vehicle with the victim.
They also left with the victim’s personal
belongings, including her phones, and those of the other occupant of her
vehicle.
Residents of the area, who heard of the
incident, said that shortly after, they noticed the arrival of a police team at
the scene where the victim’s vehicle was left, with the driver’s door hanging
open.
Spokesperson for the police in the state, DSP
Olayinka Ayanlade, who confirmed the incident on Friday said the Command has
activated its intelligence to ensure the abducted victim’s rescue.
The PPRO stated that the Command is
collaborating with local security stakeholders, while an investigation had
immediately commenced to identify and apprehend those criminals.
He gave the reassurance of the command in
taking all necessary measures to resolve the situation.
Ayanlade urged residents to remain calm and
provide any information that could assist in the investigation to the nearest
police station.
