Federal High Court acquits MUHAMMAD SHEHU of all 6 charges

Tuesday, January 20, 2026 - The Spiritual Head of the Cherubim and Seraphim Agbojesu Conference Worldwide, Samuel Akintobi, has called on the Federal Government to ensure that revenues from the new tax system are judiciously managed and used for the benefit of ordinary Nigerians.

Akintobi made the call on Saturday during the church’s Annual General Conference in Iseyin, Oyo State.

The cleric said transparent and purposeful use of tax proceeds would help address widespread concerns over the impact of the recently implemented tax reforms on citizens.

Nigeria’s new tax regime, which took effect on January 1, 2026, has faced criticisms from various quarters that it could place additional burdens on people already grappling with economic challenges.

Some groups have called for a suspension or amendment of the reforms, warning that mismanagement could worsen living conditions.

Speaking to delegates, Akintobi said, “As a church, we recognise the need for a strong revenue base to move our nation forward, but taxation must be transparent and purposeful. The people need to see that every naira collected in tax translates into projects and services that lift the common man out of hardship.”

He added, “The government must not see tax collections as an end in themselves but as a sacred trust. Let leadership prove to the people that these funds are not merely filling coffers, but are being used to improve the overall welfare of citizens.”

Also at the conference, the church’s chairman, Hezekiah Adeleke, said the creation of a comprehensive database for members was a major highlight of the deliberations.

“We are glad that the theme of the conference, ‘Advancing Steadfastly in the Lord’ (Philippians 3:13–14), guided our discussions, alongside progressive steps the church is taking, particularly registration to establish a full database of members,” he said.

Adeleke further commended the support of the Supreme Head of the church, noting that his guidance and advice were instrumental to the success of the programme.

The conference also inaugurated a new National Executive Council under Adeleke’s leadership.
