The latest update followed the recovery of another body from the debris on the eighth day of sustained search and rescue operations at the site.

In a statement shared late Wednesday on X, the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr Gbenga Omotoso, disclosed that the discovery raised the number of confirmed fatalities to six.

He also revealed that a total of 13 persons sustained injuries during the incident.

According to him, eight males, including a firefighter, were taken to the hospital for further medical care, while five others, three men and two women, suffered minor injuries and were treated at the scene before being discharged.

Providing further details, Omotoso stated that one adult female was recovered lifeless from the collapsed section of the building and later handed over to her spouse.

The fire broke out on December 24 on the fourth floor of the high-rise structure and rapidly spread to other sections, leading to extensive damage.

The incident destroyed goods valued at millions of naira and forced several traders operating within the building to abandon their businesses.

Emergency responders have continued recovery efforts, while investigations into the cause of the blaze remain ongoing.
