Saturday, January 10, 2026 - The Bauchi State chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria has described the allegation of terrorism financing levelled against Governor Bala Mohammed as baseless, malicious, and a deliberate attempt to tarnish the image of the state.
CAN stated this in a statement jointly signed by its
Chairman, Rev. Abraham Dimeus, and Secretary, Rev. Matthew Laslimbo, and made
available to our correspondent on Friday.
It described the allegations as politically motivated,
alleging that they were part of a plot by enemies of the state to create chaos
for political gain.
“These claims are false and amount to political vendetta
championed by individuals outside the state, in collaboration with fraudulent
elements within, bent on tarnishing the image of Bauchi State and its
governor.”
It added that the allegations were “baseless, malicious, and
an affront to the truth and image of Bauchi State,” which it said is regarded
as one of the most peaceful states in northern Nigeria.
The association urged caution in the ongoing prosecution of
some officials of the Bauchi State Government by the Economic and Financial
Crimes Commission.
CAN noted that, although it is a religious body with no
political affiliation, it considered it necessary to speak out as citizens and
residents of the state.
“We have keenly and diligently followed recent events as
they unfold regarding the allegations of financing terrorism levelled against
Governor Mohammed by the EFCC.
“Ordinarily, we would have kept quiet, but as citizens of
Nigeria and residents of Bauchi State, it is our responsibility to state what
we know and are sure of,” it said.
The association stressed that it was not challenging the
authority of any institution but called for caution in handling the matter to
avoid escalating tensions.
According to CAN, Mohammed’s administration has made
pragmatic efforts toward security, leading to peaceful coexistence among
residents of different ethnic and religious backgrounds.
“As residents of Bauchi State, we are witnesses to the
pragmatic steps and relentless commitment of our amiable governor on issues
relating to security. People are peacefully coexisting irrespective of
ethno-religious differences, with no religious crisis since 2019,” it stated.
CAN further stated that Mohammed had consistently
demonstrated commitment to interfaith harmony, support for Christian
institutions and events, fairness in human rights matters, and dedication to
peace and security.
The association condemned any attempt capable of disrupting
the relative peace in the state and urged the public to disregard what it
termed false claims.
