Saturday, January 3, 2026 - Some hoodlums have attacked some officials of Oyo State Fire Service in Saki, Oyo State.
The hoodlums also damaged a vehicle and other properties
belonging to the agency.
It was learnt that the hoodlums attacked the fire fighters
during a fire incident that occurred at Biseri Petroleum Station, Orogun, Isale
Adinni area in Saki.
It was learnt that the agency received a distress call about
the fire incident Thursday evening.
It was gathered that the fire agency immediately mobilised
its officials to the scene of the incident but they were attacked by some
hoodlums in the process.
Our correspondent learnt that some suspects have been
arrested by the police.
Chairman, Oyo State Fire Service, Hon Maroof Akinwande, when
contacted, confirmed the incident on Saturday morning.
Akinwande urged the public to always cooperate with firemen
in the course of discharging their duties.
He said, “En route to the scene of the fire, hundreds of
angry mobs waylaid and attacked the crew members with dangerous weapons and in
the process, the firemen sustained injuries and the fire tender was also
vandalized to the extent that the windshield was smashed, the body of the
vehicle was severely marked with strikes of cutlasses and stones.
“The crew managed to escape during the attacks and finally
report the ugly incident at the divisional police headquarters, Saki.
“The fire tender is presently at the police headquarters,
Saki, in order to prevent more attacks.
“The police are investigating the case and have arrested
some suspects in connection with the attack”.
