Friday, January 16, 2026 - The Adamawa State Police Command has arrested a yet-to-be-identified man for allegedly bathing a teenager with acid in the Shagari area of the state.
According to a statement on Thursday by the command’s Public
Relations Officer, Suleiman Nguroje, that the incident occurred on Wednesday.
According to Nguroje, the victim had run to the nearby
police division in the area to report the incident.
The state police spokesperson stated that the victim
narrated that the suspect attacked him while he was on his way to the mosque.
He stated, “The Adamawa State Police Command has commenced
an investigation into an alleged acid attack on Walid Kassim Mohammed.
“On 14/01/2026, the 17-year-old victim ran to the Shagari
Division Headquarters in distress, stating that while on his way to the mosque,
he was sprayed with a substance suspected to be acidic by one Idris Hamza, a
resident of Shagari, Yola South LGA.”
The PPRO added that the victim was immediately taken to a
hospital while the suspect was taken into custody.
He added that an investigation has commenced into the
matter.
“Following the report, the victim was immediately rushed to
a hospital, where he is currently receiving medical treatment, while the
alleged suspect was taken into protective custody.
“The Commissioner of Police, Dankombo Morris, has directed
the State Criminal Investigation Department to take over the case and ensure a
thorough investigation. More details will be provided as the investigation
progresses,” the statement concluded.
This is not the first instance in which an individual has
attacked a fellow with acid across Nigeria.
