Monday, January 5, 2026 - Nollywood actress Bimbo Thomas has shared a frightening experience from the set of Omo Ghetto: The Saga, revealing that armed robbers once attacked the hotel where cast and crew were lodged during filming in Ebute Metta, Lagos.
Speaking in a recent interview "With Chide", Bimbo
said the attackers appeared to be specifically looking for Funke Akindele, the
film’s producer and lead actress, following earlier tensions with hoodlums
around the filming location.
According to her, the production often faced disturbances
because the movie portrayed street life, which some boys in the area felt
reflected their reality. Despite increased security, the situation escalated
one night after filming had ended.
Bimbo explained that close to midnight, they heard loud
noises and shouts of “Ole” as the attackers tried to force their way into the
hotel. Panic broke out, and the women began praying as the intruders attempted
to gain access.
Realising Funke was the main target, the actresses tried to
hide her inside the room before the attackers eventually broke in. Bimbo
recalled that the men repeatedly called Funke’s name and later dragged her
downstairs to her car, forcing her to sing and dance while armed.
She added that while only a few men entered the hotel, many
others were stationed outside, leaving everyone helpless. Security forces were
eventually alerted, gunshots were fired, and the attackers fled the scene.
Bimbo said the incident left a deep emotional impact on
everyone involved and described it as a close brush with death.
“We truly thank God,” she said, reflecting on the night that
could have ended very differently.
