Friday, January 30, 2026 - An armed attack in Tse-Umelai, a Tiv community in Kwara District, Keana Local Government Area of Nassarawa state has left two persons d3ad and others missing.
The
incident occurred on January 26 at about 4:00 p.m. where some locals had gone
hunting and fishing.
According
to reports, unknown armed men opened fire on the group. One Thaddeus Tsehemba,
60, was shot by the stream, while other fishermen were also attacked with
machetes, forcing everyone to flee for safety.
Helen
Akaa, 45, sustained machete injuries and was taken to the Primary Health Care
(PHC) Kadarko before being referred to a higher medical facility in
Lafia.
Following
the attack, troops of the Nigerian Army with support from sister security
agencies, mobilised to the scene.
Two of the
four initially reported missing, Filomina Ubuga, 60, and Fidelis Yina, 45, were
found d3ad.
Thaddeus
Tsehemba, 60, and Clement Akaa, 70, remain unaccounted for.
The
corpses of the deceased have been evacuated and deposited at PHC Kadarko
mortuary.
Sources
say investigation and search operations are ongoing to locate the missing
persons and apprehend the perpetrators.
