Monday, December 22, 2025 - The Nigerian Ports Authority Police, Western Command, has rolled out enhanced security operations across major port corridors in Lagos State to guarantee safety and uninterrupted maritime activities throughout the Yuletide season.
The Commissioner of Police, Ports Authority Police Western
Command, Oluwatoyin Agbaminoja, disclosed this in a statement signed by the
Police Public Relations Officer, Isaac Hundeyin.
According to the statement, the Command has intensified
round-the-clock patrols on land and water to deter criminal activities and
protect vessels, cargo, port facilities and other critical maritime
infrastructure during the festive period.
Agbaminoja explained that the security measures are aimed at
safeguarding port users, maritime stakeholders and national economic assets
across all port corridors in Lagos State, particularly as activities increase
during the holidays.
She stated that the heightened operations cover Apapa Port,
Tin Can Island Port, Lekki Deep-Sea Port, Kirikiri Lighter Terminal, Ikorodu
Lighter Terminal, as well as the marine patrol routes extending up to 12
nautical miles.
The commissioner noted that the strategy is designed to
ensure seamless port operations amid the surge in human and vehicular movement
commonly experienced during the festive season.
To further strengthen security, Agbaminoja said the Command
has intensified collaboration with sister security agencies, terminal
operators, shipping companies and Port Facility Security Officers to enable
swift and coordinated responses to security concerns.
She added that additional personnel have been deployed to
strategic locations prone to congestion, while intelligence gathering and
surveillance activities have been reinforced to proactively detect and
neutralise potential threats to port safety and national economic interests.
The commissioner urged all port users to remain alert, adhere strictly to
security protocols and promptly report any suspicious persons or activities to
the nearest Port Police Division or Marine Unit.
“The Command wishes to reassure port users, maritime stakeholders and the
public of its commitment to maintaining safety, security, and order across all
port corridors during the Yuletide period. The command also remains committed
to ensuring that activities within the nation’s maritime domain continue
smoothly and securely throughout the season and beyond,” the commissioner
stated.
