Friday, December 26, 2025 - The Kano State Police Command says it has arrested five
suspects linked to kidnapping and cattle rustling during intelligence-led
operations across parts of the state.
In a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer
in the state, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, on behalf of the Commissioner of
Police, the command said the arrests were made on December 14, 2025, in Kiru
and Tsanyawa local government areas by operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Squad
and other units.
According to the police, officers acting on intelligence
cordoned off Rahma Round in Kiru Local Government Area and arrested four
suspects. One of them was identified as Shafiu Ibrahim, 25, from Auchanawa
village in Ikara Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
The police said Shafiu confessed to being a member of a
kidnapping gang and to his involvement in a series of cattle rustling
incidents.
A TVS motorcycle was recovered from him, while the other
three suspects are currently under investigation for various felonious
offences.
In a related operation, a joint team from the Dragon Unit,
Anti-Kidnapping Squad, and Tsanyawa Police Division arrested Bishir Umar, 24,
from Karaduwa Local Government Area of Katsina State, at Mahuta village in
Tsanyawa Local Government Area.
The police said Bishir confessed that he and his accomplices
came into Kano on two motorcycles while carrying a rifle.
He was arrested while on surveillance, while the other
suspects reportedly escaped with the motorcycles and the rifle.
The command said all the suspects would be charged to court
after investigations are concluded.
Commending members of the public for their support, the
Commissioner of Police in Kano State, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, urged residents
to continue cooperating with security agencies.
