Tuesday, December 9, 2025 - A small multi-engine aircraft slammed into traffic on a major Florida highway on Monday night, December 8.
The Beechcraft 55 plane was attempting an emergency
landing when it smashed into a Toyota Camry on Interstate 95 near Orlando
after the pilot had reported engine problems moments earlier.
The crash sent debris flying across the road and left the
sedan crushed near the median barrier.
Officials said the crash happened along one of the most
heavily traveled stretches between Orlando and Cape Canaveral, forcing troopers
to shut down lanes as emergency crews rushed in.
The Florida Highway Patrol said the Camry’s driver, a
57-year-old woman, was behind the wheel when the aircraft clipped her
vehicle. She was taken to Viera Hospital with what troopers described as
minor injuries.
The 27-year-old pilot and their passenger walked away
unhurt.
On board the plane were a 27-year-old pilot from Orlando and
a 27-year-old passenger from Temple Terrace.
Both declined to be taken to the hospital, according to
officials.
The crash caused long traffic jams in both directions as
emergency services attended the scene and worked to clear the wreckage
What caused the plane to crash-land on the highway remains a
mystery.
Authorities said the pilot had been attempting an emergency
landing but did not specify the mechanical or operational failure that
triggered the descent.
FHP said the FAA will investigate the incident and launch
full review into what caused the plane to drop onto I-95 during evening rush
hour traffic.
