Thursday, December 4, 2025 - Meghan Markle's dad has been rushed to intensive care to undergo an emergency operation, his son has revealed.
Thomas Markle, 81, was taken to a hospital in the
Philippines on Tuesday, Dec. 2, after he became seriously ill at his
home.
Meghan's dad went through a three-hour operation on
Thursday, Dec. 4, local time, and is currently in intensive care, his son has
said.
The 81-year-old is now set to go through another surgery to
take out a blood clot, his son Thomas Jr. added.
Thomas Sr. and Meghan's relationship broke down and the pair
became estranged in 2018, after Meghan married Prince Harry.
Thomas Jr., speaking to the Daily Mail, said he rushed his
dad to a local hospital in the Philippines where the doctors said "his
life was in imminent danger", following several scans.
The son added: "They raced us by ambulance, with the
sirens going, to a much bigger hospital in the centre of the city. My dad has
undergone emergency surgery."
Thomas Jr. also put out a plea to people across the globe to
think about Meghan's dad during his urgent health battle, saying: "I would
ask everyone around the world to keep him in their thoughts."
Meghan's dad has faced health battles for several years,
including two heart attacks before her wedding to Prince Harry in 2018.
Thomas Sr. also suffered a huge stroke in 2022, which left
him unable to talk for several months.
Thomas' other daughter Samantha claimed she believes her
father's health has worsened due to pressures on him in the past few
years.
Samantha said: "He is a strong man, but he has been
through so much. I am praying that he is strong enough to survive this. My
father has been through two heart attacks, a stroke and an earthquake. I hope
he can pull through this."
Thomas Sr. has been living in a high-rise flat in the island
of Cebu. He has never met his grandchildren, Archie and Lilibet.
Meghan's dad is looked after and cared for by Thomas Jr.,
his middle child.
Despite his recent health battles, the regional Emmy
award-winner moved to the densely populated tropical island in January this
year, where extreme temperatures often hit residents.
Speaking in January, Meghan's dad revealed why he considered
leaving California for South East Asia.
He said: "travelled in that part of the world when I
was a younger man. The people are so kind and welcoming, and they are
respectful to older people. It is a place of culture and beauty.
"At 80 it is time to go somewhere where the people are
lovely and I can enjoy a quieter, friendlier existence. In South East Asia the
medical care is good, you can live reasonably cheaply, the people are kind and
respect older people and the food is healthy. Mostly I just want peace."
