Man arrested for murder of nursing mother and her baby over paternity dispute in Katsina





Friday, December 12, 2025 - The Katsina State Police Command the command has arrested one Sahabi Rabi’u, 35, suspected to be in connection with the brutal m8rder of a 30-year-old nursing mother and her 10-month-old baby in Sheme village, Faskari Local Government area of the state.

The spokesperson of the command, DSP Abubakar Sadiq, who disclosed this in a statement on Thursday, December 11, 2025 said mother and baby were k!lled over paternity dispute. 

The PPRO further disclosed that the command has launched a manhunt for a second suspect who is currently at large.

During interrogation, the suspect confessed to the commission of the offence and further mentioned having conspired with a friend, now at large, to lure the victims to the outskirts of Sheme village, where they were k!lled. The bodies were burnt and thrown into a nearby well,” the statement read.

"Investigation revealed that the suspects were involved in a paternity dispute with the victim, which escalated into the brutal m8rder. They allegedly conspired to eliminate the victim and her child.

“The bodies of the victims have been recovered, and the suspect is in custody. Efforts are being made to ensure the arrest of the fleeing suspect.”

He further said the Commissioner of Police, Katsina State Command, CP Bello Shehu, condemned the act, describing it as “barbaric and inhumane”, and assured the public that the command will ensure justice is served, as no stone will be left unturned during the investigation.

The PPRO noted that the Command appeals to the public for information that may aid the investigation and lead to the arrest of the fleeing suspect. Information given will be treated confidentially. 

“The investigation is ongoing, and further developments will be communicated in due course,” he added

The Command is appealing to the public for confidential information that could help in the investigation and lead to the arrest of the second suspect.
