Wednesday, December 3, 2025 - Kano State Government has restated that the ban on commercial motorcycle operations in parts of the state is still in force, directing security agencies to intensify enforcement.
A statement issued on Monday by Abubakar Tijjani Ibrahim,
Special Assistant (Media) to the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice,
reminded residents that the Motorcycling and Related Matters (Regulations) Law
of 2013 remains active.
According to the statement, the Attorney General, Abdulkarim
Kabiru Maude, said the law prohibits the carrying of passengers on motorcycles
in several metropolitan local government areas, including Kano Municipal,
Gwale, Dala, Nassarawa, Tarauni, Ungogo (Jido), Dawakin Kudu (Tamburawa,
Gurjiya and Jido Ward), Fagge and Kumbotso.
Under the regulation, violators risk up to six months’
imprisonment, a fine of N10,000, and forfeiture of the motorcycle.
The Ministry further noted that in local councils where
commercial motorcycle operations are still permitted, riders must register with
their Ward Head, the Local Government Works Department and the Divisional
Police Officer for identification and security monitoring.
The government urged riders, passengers and community
leaders to comply with the directive, adding that security agencies have been
tasked with enforcing the law to prevent crime and maintain order.
