Friday, December 19, 2025 - Senator Orji Uzor Kalu has launched a sharp rebuttal to Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe’s assertion that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu “never won” the 2023 election and is set to be rejected by Nigerians in 2027. Appearing on Channels Television’s “Politics Today” Kalu described Abaribe’s remarks as “politically marooned from reality.”
“I have not seen the momentum opposition will be able to
challenge him. The election is Tinubu versus Tinubu, and that is it,” tells
Abaribe
Kalu highlighted that Tinubu is “trying to build an economy
that will not be based on free handouts, a historic departure from past
practices.”
Acknowledged current difficulties but stressed that “we had
no economy before. President Tinubu is trying to rebuild… the first president
to end the era of cheap money.”
Echoed Dangote Group Chairman Aliko Dangote’s recent
allegations, stating corruption is “endemic in us unless we bring a very hard
law to deal with corruption.” Urged investigation of NMDPRA Managing Director
Ahmed Farouk over alleged misuse of $7million for children’s education in
Switzerland.
Linked rising insecurity to “the collapse of the
micro-economy” and called it a “war we created by ourselves.”
Reiterated respect for judicial authority despite his own
imprisonment, saying “Nigerian judiciary remains one of the best in the world.”
Advised Tinubu to curb domestic use of the US dollar, urging
conversion to naira.
Kalu, former Abia State governor and 9th Senate Chief Whip,
recalled serving alongside Abaribe in the 9th Senate and witnessing past policy
failures, contrasting them with Tinubu’s current reform efforts.
“I just want to briefly address what my brother Abaribe said
on Channels TV that President Tinubu has already failed the election on
arrival. I don’t think so… The election is Tinubu versus Tinubu, and that is
it,” he stated confidently.
