Sunday, December 14, 2025 - A
fire outbreak on Saturday destroyed four out of five blocks of three-bedroom
flats at a residential property located on Nelson Mandela Street, Asokoro,
Abuja.
The fire reportedly started from solar panels installed on
the roof of one of the buildings before spreading to adjoining flats.
Confirming the incident, the Head of Public Affairs of the
Federal Emergency Management Department, FEMD, Nkechi Isa, said the affected
property belongs to a former governor of Zamfara State, Senator Ahmed Yerima.
Isa, quoting the Head of FEMD’s Search and Rescue Team,
Monday Addie, said the incident was reported at about 1:00 p.m. on Saturday.
“No life was lost in the incident. However, four of the five
flats were completely razed by the fire,” she said.
She added that several personal belongings, including
furniture, clothing, food items and other household effects, were destroyed.
Emergency responders from FEMD, the Federal Fire Service, FCT Fire Service, National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, and the FCT Police Command were deployed to the scene and successfully brought the fire under control.
