Saturday, December 20, 2025 - An award‑winning English teacher in Russia has been accused of serious misconduct involving two 12‑year‑old students. Prosecutors allege that Afina Simeonidis lured pupils into her home in St Petersburg and carried out unlawful acts described as s3xual ass@ult.
The 22‑year‑old has been detained on suspicion of offences
against minors. Court documents state she was “aware of the unlawful and
immoral nature of her actions.” If convicted, she faces between 15 and 20 years
in prison. Her request for house arrest was denied, and she has been remanded
in custody for two months.
Reports suggest she may claim at trial that one of the boys
fabricated allegations after she did not reciprocate his feelings. A statement
from Vyborg court said she allegedly committed the acts “for the purpose of
satisfying her s3xual desire and s3xual needs.” The accusations relate to
incidents in April and July this year when two male pupils were at her home.
Simeonidis graduated last year from the Russian State
Pedagogical University, one of the country’s leading teacher training
institutions. She previously received a presidential medal and a certificate
signed by Vladimir Putin for her contribution to the World Youth Festival in
2024. She worked at Gymnasium No. 74 in St Petersburg, describing the academy
as “my second home.” Her mother told Russian media: “We cannot comment.
Unfortunately, the investigation is ongoing.”
The case has drawn significant attention due to her award‑winning
status and the serious nature of the allegations. Authorities emphasize that
safeguarding and child protection remain a priority as the investigation
continues.
In a separate incident in the United States, a physical
education teacher at Central Pointe Christian Academy in Florida was arrested
for sending inappropriate material to a 13‑year‑old pupil. Detectives obtained
texts, videos, and photographs sent by Yezmar Angeanis Ramos‑Figueroa after the
teen’s mother raised the alarm. The teacher has been charged with distributing
obscene material to a minor and transmitting harmful content. Officials
described the exchanges as “obscene material sent to a minor and inappropriate
texting back and forth.”
