Wednesday, December 31, 2025 -Tension reportedly escalated at a wedding reception in Owerri after a prolonged power outage at the event venue led the groom to confront the event planner in full view of guests.
According to eyewitness accounts circulating online, the
confrontation occurred after electricity supply failed at the venue and the
standby generator was allegedly not switched on for hours. The resulting heat
and discomfort reportedly forced many guests to leave the event early,
disrupting the celebration.
Witnesses said the groom, visibly upset by the situation and
the breakdown of the event, stepped out of the hall to challenge the event
planner over the failure to restore power. The confrontation reportedly became
intense, prompting people at the scene to physically restrain the groom to
prevent the situation from escalating further.
The incident followed reports that significant sums were
spent on the wedding and venue booking, making the disruption particularly
distressing for the couple. Guests alleged that food and drinks were wasted as
attendance thinned, while the bride was left emotionally shaken by the turn of
events.
